Marco Island is a beautiful and picturesque island located in the Gulf of Mexico, off the western coast of Florida in the chain known as Ten Thousand Islands. It’s like a separate little oasis that is set apart from the hustle and bustle of Florida, and while Marco has become a very well developed and popular vacation spot, it’s still a lot quieter and more peaceful than many of Florida’s most visited towns. When you’re on Marco Island, you have access to some truly gorgeous beaches, and South Marco Beach is one of the island’s most beloved spots.
South Marco Beach is calm and serene compared to many of the other Florida beaches located on the Gulf. It is a public access beach, which is one of the reasons why it is such a popular spot with island visitors. South Marco Beach is easy to access, has a public parking lot, restrooms, and a clear, paved sidewalk that runs from the parking lot over to the beach itself. You might want to wear beach shoes of some sort until you get settled and find your ideal sunning spot, because the beach does have plenty of crushed shells that can be a bit owie when you step on them. However, that is also one of South Marco’s coolest features, it’s a wonderful beach to walk in search of shells to keep as momentos. There are nearby restaurants and bars that are just perfect for grabbing a drink and wandering down to sit on the beach and watch the most incredible sunsets.
