Picking a favorite beach in Hawaii can be a little like picking a favorite child – impossible to do, and even if you secretly managed to do it your opinion would change each day when that particular child did something adorable. That’s how it is here; you think you love a certain Hawaiian beach above all others, until you visit the next one on the list. Ah well, as far as problems go, Hawaii, these ain’t bad ones to have. So, while Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Oahu might not be Hawaii’s very greatest beach, it is certainly up there at the top of the list.
Duke Kahanamoku Beach is actually located at the far west end of Waikiki Beach, so I guess you could say it piggybacks it a bit. The beach sits in front of two hotels – the Hale Koa Military Hotel and the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort. Duke Kahanamoku is very wide as far as Hawaiian beaches go and that is likely a huge part of its draw since visitors can spread out a bit more than on other popular Hawaiian beaches. There is a reef located just offshore of the beach and that is another huge draw for families and tourists of all kinds. It’s a great spot for water sports of all kind or for just splashing around in the clear blue water. It’s also a great location for boating as it’s the home of the Port Hilton dock. On Friday nights there is a party on Duke Kahanamoku Beach known as the King’s Jubilee. This party includes a fireworks show the whole family will love.
