Long Bay, or Baie Longue as it is also known in French, is one of the most secluded and private beaches on the French Caribbean island of St. Maarten. The beach is located in the southern part of what is known as The Lowlands. Its clear turquoise waters are perfect for snorkeling and the rough surf makes it an ideal spot for windsurfing. Long Bay doesn’t rent equipment for watersports though, so you need to be sure to bring your own equipment.
Long Bay is a curved beauty of a beach that is dotted with stacked rocks that separate the green foliage of the island from the powdery sand of the beach. Part of the charm of Long Bay is that it is home to one of St. Maarten’s most exclusive resorts, La Samanna Hotel. This hotel is known for hosting the rich and famous regularly and people who are in the know like to visit Long Bay in the hopes of catching a celebrity frolicking on the beach. Be sure to stick around Long Bay after your relaxing day of swimming and sunning. You don’t want to miss the romantic and picturesque sunsets from the beach, considered one of the most beautiful sunset views in St. Maarten.
