In this week’s posts I’ve been exploring the far-flung tropical beauty of the Cook Islands, located in the Pacific, due east of Australia and Asia. The chain of islands is broken up into the northern and southern islands and they are among the most picturesque and breathtaking beach locales on earth. The lagoons surrounding many of the Cook Islands are crystal clear aquamarine and filled with aquatic life. The beaches are powdery, soft and extremely untouched compared to many of the other packed beaches in the world. This is one huge advantage of traveling so very far for a beach vacation – you’re fighting a lot less tourism foot traffic.
While you’re visiting the Cook Islands there is one resort hotel that you should definitely make your home away from home. The Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa is so incredibly gorgeous that you’ll probably feel like you’re on a movie set or like you’ve left the planet earth. I assure you though, this amazing place is most certainly real. In Steve Davey’s book “Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die,” Aitutaki’s lagoon was included and Davey said “no artist’s palette could ever conceive of a more perfect…turquoise.” It is so true. And the Aitutaki Resort is located on the only private island in all of the Cook Islands, making this place a paradise within paradise. The bungalows are set right on the beach, allowing guests to stay right on the famed lagoon that they traveled so far to see. And the resort will pamper you every moment with world class spa facilities and every amenity you would expect from a fine resort.
